Calissons are traditional marzipan-like confections from Provence. Candied Cavaillon melon, whole almonds, sugar, and a hint of orange rind for flavoring are formed into rounded diamond shapes and topped with just the right thickness of royal icing. To assure a flavorful treat with no bitter aftertaste, Arnaud Soubeyran's calissons contain no almond extract. These calissons are moist and soft with a slightly chewy texture that reminds us of the edges of a pan of brownies! We are developing a slight addiction to these real-food treats and find them a wonderful accompaniment to tea. Each box contains 12 pieces (140g/4.94oz).

An unusual candy.
The best thing about these treats is the wonderful textures provided by the crunchy candy shell, the soft chewy middle, and the slightly stubborn edible paper on the bottom. Very satisfying to bite into. The flavor is sweet and milky with a hint of melon and orange. I ended up eating them all in one day, something I rarely do. My only complaint is that they were a little stale but that's understandable considering they come from overseas.
